This coffee drink, whose name comes from the Latin word meaning "to press out," is brewed by extracting the heart of the bean to create a thick, rich, smooth shot of coffee.

To make espresso at home, it is essential to have an espresso maker. For best brewing results, follow the manufacturer's directions for brewing using finely ground espresso beans and fresh, cold tap water or distilled water (please see our Grinding and Brewing sections for preparation tips).

For a single serving of espresso, use two tablespoons of Strange Brew's Coffee and 1 1/2 ounces of water. A perfect cup of espresso has a very short brewing cycle - only about 25 to 30 seconds. It should pour out of the spout in a thick stream, producing a frothy cream layer on top. Once the brewing cycle has completed, remove the carafe immediately. Pour espresso into a warm demitasse cup and enjoy this wonderful brew.
